Settling in...

Today one of my teachers was sick (I think) so we watched a cartoon in French. There were actually no words, but we had to interpret and answer questions from the movie. It seemed odd to be doing this but, when in France...

So after a while, I just got into it and to my surprise, I quite liked the movie. Worksheets, not so much...

I saw a place where you can hire a bike...might be a plan!
Worksheets, lots...

aujourd'hui à montpellier

Today was a little freaky...the realisation I'm in France for the next 12 weeks seemed too huge to think about so after class I walked, and walked and walked...
It's pretty hot here, but the people are in jeans and jackets still! It's easy to spot the tourists in their summer clothes. Daniele, my host, says this is NOT hot and to wait until June and July! Oh....

I have managed to purchase some things so won't starve! Today for lunch I got 'pain muesli' and du fromage...

There are lots of beggars around so I have to be careful of not looking at them or you can't get them to leave you alone.

At the apartment of my host, Daniele there are 8 young students, so I'm happy to not be in the same place as them! My apartment is just around the corner from the main home of Daniele. I'm not sure but I think she owns a few different apartments?

Dinner time is kinda funny, no English allowed, it is quite quiet with just everyone eating. Awkward! I would imagine over time we will all speak French to some extent and be able to communicate. A challenge!

First day at school

Ok, obviously I'm in the 'easy' class eh! I am ALLL good with that! It is taking all of my headspace at the moment to adjust to being in France, being away from my home, meeting new people, learning how things 'roll' in Montpellier, so I am good, non, great with a week of revision of French.

Oh boy!

Now I know how it feels to be the 'new kid on the block'! How weird is it to follow blindly when usually you are the one leading the pack...this is going to take some getting used to!

As expected I'm in the lower class. pas de probleme, it's kinda hard to even think slightly complicated French at the moment so I'm allll good with that!

The pedagogy at the school seems fine, see it, say it, practice it...and ...flip...homework! Drag!

I have even managed to get me a sim for my phone! Well done me! C'est simple!

This afternoon I went on a walking tour of Montpellier, it's an interesting place!  Pictures will eventually be on photo peach but it's just too much at the mo!

Busy, busy, busy...

Only 2 and a half weeks to go now, the enormity of leaving my home for 3 months leaves me excited and somewhat anxious.

My bag is semi packed...just how do you pack for 3 months? Visas arranged, Euros purchased, contact with host made.

Many hours of scanning google maps has made me somewhat familiar with the layout of Montpellier. I am eager to begin now.

bientôt la France.
